  • I know BASIC HTML... thats all :S

I want the layout like this: http://img12.imageshack.us/img12/8581/dabbleness.png

See? The content is below the logo... in a SINGLE block/strip thing.. with an image above it saying what that section is? That side part is where I might put the menu.

    Thanks very muchly !
  • Your best bet is to install the AutoTheme module and a few of the free AutoTheme's available. Basically just poke through the autothemes and then use them on your postnuke install and discover what the differant files/options are for. This route ensures that you learn how everything in the AutoTheme module works and end with the best possible outcome
  • Dan,

If you know basic HTML, then giz is right. The theme you linked above would be simple to create with the AutoThemes mod and a little coding.
  • This is easy to do with regular theme's too - it's just a two column theme instead of a three column theme... Just omit the right block zone/column

  • I don't think "regular" PHP themes are easy for the average user.
  • They are if you follow my guide ;) - although not for wet-behind-the-ears-"newbie's", FrontPager's etc...

  • Poor Frontpage .... it has such a bad rap. I still use it on rare occasion when I want a visual look at HTML. The newer version seem much less obnoxious than the older versions were.
  • It's obnixiouness continues simply by the company that produces it. It's still a tool, its the person using it that deterimes how bad it is, which most of the time the person using it isn't a professional web designer, since they'll use either a notepad like app or dream weaver, or GoLIve.

  • I usually just use a free text editor called Crimson Editor, but there are times what I like to see the visual output. Is there a tool that has a visual display without all the Frontpage bloat?
  • I use dreamweaver, but only for the HTML and PHP highlighting - I never design themes within the visual editior, there is no need anymore - I can make them far better using the initial output of FWMX and handcoding the rest ;)

  • ROFL. I knew that was coming!

Actually, I too prefer notepad over most text editors. There is always too much crap on the screen with text editors.

Ain't no way you use that retched Paint proggy with the slick graphics you churn out .... :)
  • I prefer Dreamweaver as well, but mostly for the colorful syntaxhighlightning in the code. When handeling tables I almost always use the visual editor since its faster. FWMX 2004 + DWMX 2004 + AutoTheme rules. Period.
  • I *still* use a old tool called HotMetal Pro 6.0.. I love it! It's the best combination of a plain text editor/tags-view and WYSIWYG (which I don't use)... Every tag has an attribute editor to quickly add anything for ALT text to JS Event commands...

That & ol' school themin' (that is, HTML as HTML and not echoed PHP in theme.php) and I can put together a decent theme in no time flat!

I aggree with all but DWMX 2004, it sucked for me and I reverted back to plain ole dwmx. DWMX 2004 was very slow and crashed all the time...
