  there is a free version of AutoTheme and some free themes you can use with it...

  Sure, but the old PHP method is harder and requires teh designer to know PHP. There is a free version of AutoTheme, not as feature rich, but no fee either.

  The .7 free version does most of the things the 1.7 upgrade does. I think the only thing missing is Autoblocks - and, of course, the 1.7 version is much more newb friendly.
