Hello. I've been searching on the topic but can't find anything basic enough for my needs. I'm looking to set up a RSS newsfeed for my readers and others to use based on my own content but I really need a clear how to guide. Judging from your posts, PostNuke provides a simple way to do this, but I can't find anything in the admin functions. Can one of you provide me with a link to a fairly simple "hot to" (for a non-techie) to create a RSS newsfeed in PostNuke (latest vs). Thanks very much. Maggie

There is supposed to be a theme for .8 that will allow any page to be sent as an RSS feed, but at this point, the only thing core that can be RSS fed is the news. A few modules do have RSS feed scripts, but they are custom written, and the same would have to be done with any other module you wanted to have an RSS Feed for.

Maggie,
All you have to do is post stories (ie - News) in your site, then folks who want an RSS newsfeed of your news can access the backend.php script on your site.
For example... If you go to this site: http://www.maxthrust.net (Don't worry, it's a model rocket site.) and look at the news stories on it.
Now go to this site: http://www.mtrad.com Look at the bottom right of the home page. You'll see a PostNuke block that uses the RSS newsfeed from http://www.maxthrust.net to display the model rocket news headlines.
Finally, go back and open this URL in your browser: http://www.maxthrust.net/rss_feed.php If you are using Internet Explorer, you'll get what looks like an outline of the news from www.maxthrust.net. This is what an RSS newsfeed looks like. If you look through it, you'll see the headlines displayed in the RSS box.
(BTW - I renamed my RSS newsfeed script from backend.php to rss_feed.php because I thought it was more appropriate.)
Anyway, the point is that you don't have to do anything except create news stories to generate an RSS feed.
Now, if you want to generate an RSS newsfeed to notify folks of new downloads or postings in your forum or some other part of your PN site, you will need to add a 3rd party module that can do that. Search the mods.postnuke.com site for "RSS" and you'll probably find it.
Let me know if that does (or doesn't) answer your questions. -

Indeed it does ColdRolledSteel (of course I meant "how to" not "hot to") and I'm very pleased at the answer (and your example really helped). So I already have an RSS Newsfeed! (since all I post is news (original book reviews in my case) and update very often). So all I have to do now, is to let those people who prefer a RSS newsfeed to my newsletter, or who want to use my headlines on their site to go to http://www.compulsivereader.com/html/backend.php and help themselves. Excellent. I really appreciate your clearly worded answer (and am glad that I use PostNuke).
Thanks so much. Maggie
