Dropdown Menu Request!  Bottom

  • Hi! I'm trying to find a nice dropdown menu for my site,I'm using AutoTheme. I would like to have something more modern then the usual dropdown menu featured in the generic menu block.I try several Dropdown menu scripts but they never works on my site.

I have a lot of categories and subcategories to add in it.

    Do someone can help me?
    Thanks in advance! wink
  • Check pnMenu at http://www.pncommerce.de -> Addons.

It's a pnRenderbased blocks that replaces the generic menu block and its customizable via pnRender templates. Some basic stuff is included, other menu types can be added (javascript, CSS, whatever you want). The block can handle multilanguage menus in one block instead of needing one block per language.

You need XTE RC3 to use this!

  • Thanks Landseer ! I'm going to check it out now!
Do you think it's working with AutoTheme? And where can I find this XTE RC3 ?

    Please let me know
  • AutoTheme can handle all kinds of Postnuke blocks AFAIK so it should work, but I do not use AT.....

XTE RC3 can be found on a site called www.postnuke.com

  • XTE-RC3 is available here at downloads.postnuke.com. It's the new core Theme & Module Templating system that will be in all PostNuke versions from .750 on. It will work fine with AutoTheme.

  • I like to use the XARA.com menu maker. It has gobs of styles and an easy interface. I just set up an AutoThemes AutoBlock and insert the code into an HTML block assigned the the AutoBlock. The cool thing is that I can make changes to the menu with XARA and then just upload the files by ftp - without ever changing anything in the admin or AutoTheme admin panel. It costs $25 or something, but its been one of the better investments I've made.

You can see an example on my website - both the drop down menu and the left side java menu are created with Xara. There are also detailed instructions on how to use Xara w/ AutoThemes on my website.

  • Fan-cee! The only problem I see with the XARA is it doesn't degrade well for users who have Jscript turned off (no Jscript - no menus - yep some surf with no JS), and the lack of being able to add/change menu items via the admin is a definite minus, IMO... The above block shows the top level items, at least, which can be links themselves.

They look very nice though - I gather the program generates the top-level image menu buttons as well? Once change I might suggest (for Xara), is to have some kind or arrow indicator on menus that have more options under them...

  • The cool thing about Xara is that the many styles can have any color applied to them and many can have a background image loaded behind them. Its probably more of a benefit for me than for others since I change my site theme monthly and the ability to change the menu on the fly (without having to change any links or anything) is a real time saver. Plus, I love not having to fiddle with the admin panel to change the menus. I just upload the new files to my server and I'm done!

Ditto for the above - anything you can do with style sheets, you can apply to the menu block linked above - plus - since the style sheets are tied in with your theme(s) style sheet, the menu can change to match the theme if the user (the end-user not the admin) switches the theme on the website... (and no need to change the links)

I think ideally, users in general would want to be able to access the menu via the admin to change/add links... Though your style sheets would have to be uploaded to update the look of the menu overall...
