  • I see in your announcement on Shawn's Site that it's $5, but don't see that in your post here or anywhere on your site, that needs to be something front & center, no way to over look.

That said, $5 may be a reasonable price for your work, but for those who don't know you from Adam, it would be nice to have some idea of how you've written it and what makes it better than Lobos, who's fairly well known around these parts, work.

  • Points taken! Thanks for the input. It's more in-depth than Lobos' document in some respects, and it skips some sections that Lobos covered altogether. The goal of my Tutorial is to teach the processes and concepts of AutoTheme, in as "lay" as terms can get, including commentary with scenarios, examples, whys, etc.

Lobos' doc is great, and I don't hold that mine is better, although it is easier on the eyes than Lobos'. I only maintain that mine is written for a different audience...a "newbier" audience. I'm a newbie and I know what pitfalls I experienced ...and I write from that point of view. Hopefully when the Tutorial gets around a bit more, I'll be a little more known 'round these parts! :D

    Thanks for the reply!

  • Maybe you could post a sample section or something. I like to browse a book before I buy it. It also helps to see a person's style of writing to know if it's osmething of use to you.

  • Yes, of course...and thanks for the suggestion! I think the "Overview" section and the "Custom Blocks" section will give you a good idea of my writing style. Both are now available online so that one may get a better idea of what's included! :D

  • Really, thanks for the suggestion...I spotted a typo that I made with a text-replace!
  • I am a newbie at Postnuke and AutoTheme and was having a real tough time understanding the basic princioles of AutoTheme. I bought the tutorial and am very glad that I did because now I have a pretty good understanding of how to use AutoTheme to it's fullest. I am still a newb but I'm getting there pretty fast now that I've got the basics down. If you're lost with AT and new to all of this then I garuntee that this document will get you on track and make you feel less intimidated with AT. I might note at this point that the tutorial was written for AT 1.0 but I am running 1.7b5 and had no problem at all applying the tutorial to my version. It's an easy read and if you're having problems then I do suggest it.
  • Thanks for the great review STPer! I'm ecstatic that the tutorial is being met with much appreciation!

It's great to see an actual user of the tutorial posting about it on the boards...and I want to say thanks a lot!

    Have a great day!

  • I'm happy to say that most users have reported excellent results with the Tutorial...

    :D
  • I'd like to try it but as trite as this may sound, $5.00 can mean the difference of an evening meal or not to a student. Unfortunately. :(

College can be brutal on the pockets, not to mention demeaning.
  • Just use Lobos tutorial. Its free and I'm told that its the better of the two. I think you can find it at http://www.webvida.com

If you need any advice, just email me. I like to help newbs.

  • I can't comment on ALan's vs Lobos' tutorial, because I haven't had a chance to fully evaluate Alans, but Lobos' is excellent.

That said, if you try, I bet you could scrape up the $5.00 in a week or two.

  • I can come up with the money, just not in the middle of the month. :) But in the meantime, I'll try anyone's tutorial. I'm currently having a little teensy problem trying to get rid of a table background color and can't seem to find where to edit.

Autotheme: Thank you for you kind offer. If I cannot find where to edit the color of my theme, I will definitely email you. I've modified the table background color in AutoTheme lite, but for some reason it isn't changing.
  • On second thought, I'm going to make the tutorial available free of charge due to the announcement of the final 1.7 beta release of AutoTheme. The process should be complete by this evening (EST). Please feel free to download both the AutoTheme Tutorial and its accompanying Tutorial Theme free of charge, as well as post your feedback and comments.

    Have a good one!

I'm going to make the tutorial available free of charge...

Ahh man, I just paid for it too! ;)

Seriously though, the theme tutorial is well worth it. It's nice that alarconcepts is going to provide his tutorial for free but if you download it and like it, you should send him $5. It's well written and very understandable.

The thing I find disturbing is autothemes. I can't seem to understand why you would come into a post and “put down" someone else’s product when YOU haven't even seen it yourself.

How would you feel if someone quoted one of your in forum advertisements stated in they know someone that can develop themes that makes your themes look like 2nd grade artwork. I've seen someone post an advertisement about their product and then you come into their post and advertise your product. To me, that is not professional. It's not right and it only hurts the community.

    You should think about that...
