Themes causing site crash?  Bottom

  • :( A couple of themes accessible from the main PostNuke site CR-TrueBlue and CR-GreenMachine appear to be the reason for PostNuke (0.726 Phoenix) site crashes. One such crash resulted in the need for a complete reinstall including database. The error message either of these generate is 'call to undefined function: themeheader() in your_postnuke_path/header.php on line 188'. I've notified the author Jeff Watkins of Classroom Revolution.com of my experience.

    Thanks

  • I you sure you had to reinstall everything, including the database? I've been working with themes alot lately, and the error message 'call to undefined function: themeheader() has been very common.

Now, I'm not a professional at this, so if I'm wrong I wouldn't doubt it. But I've always been able to fix the problem in one of the following ways.

    1. If editing a theme, make sure to keep a copy of the theme.php to upload in case the one you are working on develops errors.

    2. If the theme was new (ie. you've done no editing) try this: Upload a working theme into the theme folder, delete the non-working theme's folder, then rename the working theme's folder to the name of the non-working theme (also edit the theme.php file to use the new name). By doing this, PostNuke will think this new folder is the old one, but with one small difference: the theme should work now.

    3. When testing themes, never set your site to use the new theme as default. Use ?theme=themename instead. To use that, just put the theme name into where it says themename, and then put the text after the .php part of your sites address (ie. http://www.yoursite.com/nuke/html/index.php?theme=themename ). If you want to use a module other than news for testing, you may put a & symbol after the text, but before the modules code (ie. http://www.yoursite.com/nuke/html/modules.php?theme=themename&op=modload&name=PNphpBB2&file=index ).

Now, this may not help your situation (and for one it's too late since you've reinstalled everything), and this may all be old news to you. But I thought I should post it just incase, and to help further people if they are smart enough to use the search function of this board.

Do you have Auto Themes 1.7 installed? If not, that is why it crashed. But, there was no need to reinstall your entire postnuke site. All you had to do was search these boards and you would have found a solution to reloading a working theme.

E-mail me if you have Auto Themes 1.7 installed and are still having problems.
