Hi, i see that version .8 will be developed.
It's really cool to see that not all the staff left postnuke for others CMS!
Is somebody start thinking about having a more cleaned HTML source? (maybe using CSS for all, and with a particular eye for accessibility (see section 508))
Tks
Stefano

PN .8 will be a major step towards HTML compliance - im not sure of the details, the devs will have to comment on that.
.726 also improved slightly in that respect.
The pages that wont render HTML compliant are often the comments pages, and forums where you allow HTML, as you can guarantee that half your users wont know what HTML compliance is ;)

.726 introduced about 95% HTML compliance with the generated HTML. The big challenge, of course, is the content itself. Site admins need to be on thier toes to keep compliance standards up. I give the main PN sites a one over periodically for this (although not in the last week or two...). .8 and templatating makes it easy to get the last 5% or so and work will continue to be done to ensure that this is the case.
Additional work is being done to reduce the overall use of tables, generate some good CSS guidelines and implement those throughout the code. Accessability will start to come through these efforts and as we get closer to a finish product I will be running the code through some accessability checkers and aiming for at least the basics to be covered. We can then move from there.

with introducing the xanthia templating engine on one of my sites ( http://www.gmuenderwoche.de ) i've improved the section 508 compliance of the current .726 codebase to be at least WAI-A compliant, but WAI-AA should be possible, too. since these guidelines are US-specific i'd like to see some feedback about any problems (here in germany we've slightly different guidelines).
feedback and suggestions are welcome ;)

xanthia is the upcoming templating engine for postnuke. please see this announcement and use the search function within the news for more informations. basically WAI compliance should be possible with all themes, equal if they are hardcoded in PHP, done with AutoTheme or with the new xanthia templating engine.

the themepack can be found here - since xanthia is still a release candidate you won't find many themes around at the moment but it's pretty easy to setup new themes based on the default ones)

Xanthia themes need to be initialised via the admin panel before they can be used (Administration->Xanthia->View Themes).
If you've already changed the default theme to a non-initialised theme then use the Swiss Army Knife tool (downloads.postnuke.com) to change to a different theme.
