  • Hi,

I don't know if anyone has suggested this before, but what is the possibility of setting up postNUKE to handle paid member accounts?

If it's not possible, does anyone know of a content management system that already supports this kind of feature? I spent a week setting up postnuke for this client, only to find out later (due to miscommunication) that they want premium members.

    Any suggestions appreciated.
  • I think this is a good idea. You can probably already do what you want with the extended user fields, though (I know that it's currently limited).

I would add a user_level int field. I would suggest allowing multiple numerical values, not just a paid/unpaid boolean. That way you could support, say, Gold, Silver, Bronze and Guest memberships and you could have certain resources (custom modules) available to members only if they have the right membership level. The value can be manipulated directly by an admin or via a payment system.

A user_level_expiry date field would also be required, as you may want to offer services for fixed periods of time - subscriptions can be renewed.

I wouldn't oppose these fields being added to the basic set, but if there are reasons for not doing this you can still achieve what you want.

  • This is where I would anticipate my buddy MagicX stepping in and doing some free word of mouth advertising. I'll save him the typing.

www.portalzine.de he is working on a paypal integration module that could be what your looking for it might not be exactly it but tell him what features you desire and that magic wand will be waved. It's not out at the moment so you have to ask him about that.
  • I have been trying to find a solution to do exactly this. I need some sort payment solution which will edit the user's member status i.e. Bronze, Silver, Gold. Each status will allow access to different areas of my site. If anyone knows of a module that will accomplish this, or any other way to accomplish this I would really appreciate it.

    Thanks

    Tab :)
  • same here, just im tried of finding such modules..
anything comes up plase let me know..
  • There are solutions to this, such as pnCommerce and other commerce and subscription based modules.

FYI, this thread is well over years old... more searching will turn up some more relevant results.

  • I'm in the process of finalizing this feature for Distance-Educator.com. I'm using CMSMerchant and it's working great. There were a few technicals hurdles for me since I'm running several instances of PN that share the database tables but it should be simple using permissions and CMSMerchant.

  • One other note, CMSMerchant allows you to use other plugins besides Paypal which can be an obstacle since your member has to have an account with them. For example we are using Authorize.net so our members instead of paypal which is a better option for us.

  • paypal no longer requires membership. you can simply pay with your credit card.

-- I just realized this thread is over two years old... lol.
  • LOL :)

See we're still relevant! And it's now much easier setting up a "premium" membership service on any site. Also, sure others might be interested in doing this. Hmmm, would make a good case study/article.

  • Hello Warrick aka autothemes.com - tell me, how comes you are back here on postnuke forums after being banned for the over zealous promotion of your dubiously acquired commercial themes?

You do realise don't you that you are the one who messed it up for every single postnuke commercial developer don't you?

Inccidently, how many of those themes that you flog were actually designed from scratch by you I wonder?

  • By the goodness of the postnuke gods I suppose. ROFL.

Nice try though - sidestepping the fact that you ignore demands for refunds from those people that trusted you only to find that your product doesn't work. Even lobos told me the other day that he had to scrap your ecommerce solution because it stopped working.
