...I am unable to get anywhere from pnNavigator other than pnForums. All I get is "could not locate remote server" from my browser!

Something like PostNuke.com should have more than 1 pair of NameServers. From my understanding, they're supposed to work in sequence, which ever one responds 1st does the job, so 4+ name servers would increase stability I would think.

More that likely the servers were down for longer that the ttl for the domain was set to.
Having a DNS server in another datacenter would be nice, but probably not necessary. A better answer would probably be to turn the ttl up for the domain.
Usually hosts have the http, email, and dns all on one server. Chances are that httpd would fail before the dns does, and if that's the case, a working dns server would be useless.
