So, I wanted to try this PostNuke business out...

I have downloaded the main .zip (PN-0.7.2.1_phoenix), and am not sure what to do next...

This is as far as I can go... If it is way to complicated to get into for someone like me, lemme know. Otherwise, I would love to get some step by step info... maybe you could point me to some instructions?

    Thanks in advance,

    Mike

You just posted in the land of instructions.

There is much farther you "could" go. That is....
read whats here and on the site. Spend some time reading, it's all been covered for the most part.

I know it's tough to find things around here, and the moderators refuse to, or do not want to, pin topics that have valuable "Info" in them for new users to find easier.
This will always be a problem until someone gets around to changing things here for all.

ok unzip the file on your computer. Then get an ftp client ( www.download.com search for WS_FTP_PRO ) . Now you need to download this and install it, and "create a site" make sure u have ftp details. Then when you have connected with FTP, in your root directory make a file called PostNuke or whatever. Go back to the unzipped file on your computer, and go to the file HTML, go INTO that folder, and upload everything inthere, to your "PostNuke" file that you created using the FTP client. Next, when you uploaded everything, right click in the ftp client, config.php and config-old.php and select Commands > Chmod and where the number are, delete them and type in 666. Once you done that, go to http://addresstoyour.site/Usernamemaybe/postnuke/install.php . Now before you do this make sure u know the NAME of your DATABASE, this might be : username_db or db_username . Follow the instruction on the site and when you get to the table about All you info , its as follow :

Databasehost : localhost , unless stated otherwise
DatabaseUsername: usually your main username for your webhost
    DatabasePassword : your main password
    Databasename : username_db or db_username
    Tableprefix: nuke
DONT select the little check box
Click submit when you entered the details
    Then new install
Click the box "create databas" then click Start
If you get any errors post a message and then someone might be able to help, but double check your Username etc first

    Hope that helps :)

Ok, I'm new to this but after seeing some sites with PostNuke and then finding out it's open source I just had to use it.
I was following the instructions given by Switchit, everything was going smothly untill I went to http://addresstoyour.site/Usernamemaybe/postnuke/install.php, obviously I change the URL to fit mine but I ca't get it to find the page, I keep getting a 404 page. Also, where do I find the name of my database?
    Thanks for the help.

first of all you should check that your webhosting supports PHP with a little file 'phpinfo.php':
    [php:1:dd1d297c25][/php:1:dd1d297c25]
upload this to your webspace and try to call it via browser. if you don't get the PHP configuration page your webhosting does not support PHP and PostNuke will not work...

I'm using Microsoft FrontPage, I know, I know, but would I place this code in the HTML section or would I just place it like I would normal text on the web template?

"PHP 4 with GD support" - From my server. Doesn't that mean they support it? That's why I went with this server over another one. If they don't support it please give me some server's who do so I can switch over but I thought my did.

I just contacted my server, they said they DO support PHP modules. So, what could the problem be then?

At what permissions is the install.php suppose to be, isn't it suppose to be 664? Sorry but I can't think of anything else that would be causing me this trouble. I WILL get PostNuke istall!! I don't care what I have to do!
