Ok I have looked around a bit in here and haven't found anything talked about in exactly the way I am looking to set up a PN Site. So let me tell you how I am trying to set this up and hopefully I can get some good feedback on what to do, what to look for and how to go about it...Setting up a PN site isn't difficult, however I am finding i am having trouble customizing it once I get it up....It's all kind of new to me so any help would be greatly appreciated.

I would like to section the site into (2) distinct areas, (MEMBERS and NON-MEMBERS) the user comes to the site and gets only the ability to sign up, nothing else. After registering they get the content i have deemd for use by registered Non-Members or Non-Subscribers. at that point they can elect to Upgrade their membership via (preferably) PayPal and will now have a certain amount of days/months as a subscriber to the site and access to everything we have in there for our Members.

As far as member levels I don't need to restrict use of anything in the members area in any way other than by time (i.e.: Silver members are 1 month, Gold are 3 months, Platinum are 1 year, etc...) but all users that are members have access to it all.

Is there a module or hack that can do this, or can someone help me set this up? Additionally, the documentation I have found on permission levels reads like stereo instructions and would appreciate any help along those lines as well...

One last thing, in setting up this type of membership site, will 3rd party modules, such as phpBB or XForum pick up the membership restrictions? or will the user need to log in to it seperately?

Thanks in advance and I hope I'm not being too much of a pest

Google "PostNuke and paypal" and I think you might find what you're looking for.

I'm looking to do the same, only without money involved...basically a means to "approve" new members. non-members could see opening page and login only. perms?

yes, perms is the answer in your case, paw.... Make new members default to membership in a non privileged group then you can upgrade them if you need to.

I think the XUser module also has the option of approving members before they can use your site, if you would prefer to be doing it that way.
