Hi there,
Could you please take a spin by http://html.webvida.com and have a look at this theme. If the layout seems broken please post what type of OS and Browser version/type you were using. YOu don't have to go into specifics about what errors are appearing on the page.
Thankyou very much for your help!
Kindest regards

thanks Grizzly!
This is a template conversion so I am afraid I had to go with the fixed layout :(
What was your OS and browser BTW?
Kindest regards

Looks very cool, but if you use fixed-width themes, please center it! Very few still browse in 800x600, and having it off-center like that is unsettling (or is that un-Stettling? Sorry!). You could put some background texture to go with the theme in the background. The moving clouds are a very nice subtle touch!
Windows ME, Netscape 7.1 (same as Mozilla 1.4)
Did the client say how the layout was breaking? And with what browser? IE5 Mac, Safari, Opera, or Netscape? Probably not the latter, the code would be the same as on Windows. Safari uses KHTML, so it would probably be the same as on Konqueror on Linux.

Yeah I know fixed layout sux, but it was a converted from an existing template and there is not much I can do about it - it is very difficult to make a decent 100% width theme even starting from scratch, almost impossible to do after the layout is created as a fixed layout. You need to have an area where you can have a repeating 1pixel image this is the case for the header and the footer, also for the middle blocks as well - it really hampers design options. I wish they would just do away 600x800 - anyone got any stats on how many people are using this resoloution?
I could center the theme, but it has already been accepted by my client and I am hesitant to do anymore work on it ;)
Basically he told me that a "friend" viewed the theme using mac "with the latest IE" and found some layout problems, he sent some screen shots:

http://www.webvida.com/break2.jpg
I think the left block layout getting pushed out is due to the length of some of the links, but they seem to wrapping on all the browsers I've checked. the images getting pushed down in the left and right colums would normally be due to the lack of top valignment in the tr or td tags, but I am sure I had this done... The syles seem a bit out also...
Your insights into this vexing problem are very much appreciated.
Kindest regards

I run dual monitors, one is set to 800x600.
It looks great here on that one.
WindowsXP/SP1 latest version of IE. (always) ;)
Using mozilla firebird browser latest release it looks fine as well, but is actually not full screen on the 800x600, its a bit small.
Looking at that theme briefly, I'm not sure it would be very tough to set it to a % of screen size, but you'd have to make the images work for that style. -

I don't know the details, but have heard IE for Mac has a few problems, most notably stability, but also display bugs. Without knowing the trigger for the bug or a workaround, that's just something they have to live with, I guess.
However, looking at the screenshots, it seems the culprit is the rather long unbroken word "interkonnektionsgesuche" which is pushing things out. There is nowhere to wrap it. Maybe non-bold text and a pixel or two smaller? You should test your theme with this word or similar. Now, what's that really long Welch placename again? Y'know, the longest in the English language?
Damn them Germans for not using hyphens!

Considering That it's a flash animation at the top and I don't think I could make it stretch, plus hold it's integrity, plus merge with the image below - I would say that it's a hell of a lot of work!
It wouldn't be too bad if it didn't have the flash animation, but even then I would probably have to rewirte the HTML script - the guys at templateMonster make good templates, but are a bit dubious in their HTML coding.
Kindest regards
