Placing a Block in the Center problem  Bottom

  • Has anyone ever heard of the theme called "Bitrate" ?
Anyway, my problem is that I can't get a block to appear in the center :(
Maybe I am setting up the block wrong, to maybe its the Theme...
Has anyone ever had problems with this?
P.S. yes I made sure to set the block in the center, but nothing shows up
    Thanks
  • its the theme, if you want to give it center block functionality you will have to code it up yourself

  • Also you could check the with http://www.clogloose…viewsdownload&sid=1 and see if their centerblock module would work also.
  • good good .. is there anywhere that could possibly give help on how to code it up urself ? .. would u think that woudl be a long one ?
  • I had a look at it, and decided to completely recode it for PN 0.72x. Simply fixing up the pre-Phoenix code is no fun. It was in need of a major overhaul. It's a 2-year old Somara Sen theme coded so even the antequated Netscape 4 can render it. Didn't test it in NN4, don't care either, as nobody uses it anymore.

So made it more modern, first of all making it 100% width (in a recent survey, most preferred full-width designs, followed by 1024px, last 800px, reflecting how most people have their monitors), removing annoying spacer cells, nested tables, extraneous tables, fudged borders etc, and made use of CSS instead. Replaced most tables altogether, using DIVs instead, and using H4 for headings. A few cross-browser issues were resolved (specifically IE 5.x bugs, don't have IE6 to test), and put in some link effects.

For good measure, put in Javascript retractable menus and support for ShortURLs (disabled by default).

  • Bores me? Trying to make a theme work with Netscape 4. Pointless, really. Or perhaps discussions on "pimping" Xaraya ;) Equally pointless.

Just so happened this theme was useful in trying some things out on. And I can't help myself, if I gotta fix a theme, I like to do it right. That means converting the whole damn thing to HTML with embedded PHP, so I can use Dreamweaver. Some of that is automated by search-and-replace, but there's a fair bit of cleanup and debugging, too.

  • i think i will stick to support, and the occasional hands on help. lol

why bother trying ot make it work with NN4 then? you should make a popup in all themes saying something like

"This theme is not designed for NN4, if nothing works dont be suprised, and dont e-mail me, just upgrade your browser!"

    :P

  • I don't try and make it work in NN4, that's the thing. I hate it, or rather the bugs in it. That's why I don't really bother with the second stylesheet. If it breaks in NN4, then people ought to know by now to get a more recent browser. Considering few sites out there now works as intended in it, any hold out on Linux or whatever they're using (can't see any one having bought a Windows PC in the last 5 years still using Netscape 4) would be well-used to sites not displaying or crashing the browser (yes, valid CSS can crash it, just try my lates version of PostNukeBlue100 on it; what's more, I don't care).
The concept of displaying a message or link to the Web Standards Project by using visibility: hidden or negative (off-page) positioning, which NN4 doesn't understand and thus displays it where no other browser will, has been around for a while, but many have come to the realisation now not to bother anymore.
If you're the abovementioned Linux user, you're highly technical and well-versed in upgrading from source code on the command line anyway. If you're some poor schmo who bought a 2nd hand PC from a friend with Windows 3.1, well a lot of stuff won't work anymore, and your hard drive is due to die anytime soon anyway. Even then there are modern browsers that can run on it, but there's not enough of those to hold everyone else back for.
I just can't be bothered with it and don't want to compromise anymore.

    Death to Bad Browsers!
