banner issue re:affiliate link

Searched the forums and could not find an answer to this.
I have the banner module working just fine but there is one small snag. When a user clicks the banner they reach the correct site however, I do not get credit for the vistor coming through my affiliate link example: (whatever.com/afil/breimer) . If I put the banner on a non post nuke page it will show the user clicked through the affiliate link and I get credit. Is their a way to remedy this?
