I swear I have searched high and low for this answer. The only thing I found that was relatively close was the bog-standard info on permissions at another site, and that confused the crap out of me.
Can someone pullease explain to me how to totally disable private messages for all users?
I know you folks probably detest dumb newbie questions, but hey it's worth a shot. -

you shouldnt need to use a permission, if you dont want o use them at all then surley you can just remove Messages from your modules directory, and deactivate and remove it. This does mean that any links to Messages will be met with 'Page Not Found' error
The permission you would need would probably be this, if the above is not satisfactory
Code
All Groups | Messages:: | .* | None
And once you had added this line to your permissions, then you would need to make sure that it was listed at the top of your permissions lines, to disable it for everyone (including admin)
