Is there any work-around so that I can either "program" a story to a date in the past, or edit the date of an existing story?

I know it's kind of Orwellian/MiniTrue, but it would be handy...

I also think it would be handy especially for those who are converting their sites but can't use a conversion script. Many of them would want articles reflecting original dates.

In the Story Editor, the screen allows you to alter the year. If you enter a past year, it changes it to the current one. It may be as easy as eliminating that little check in the code, but I don't know PN well enough to tell whether this would adversely effect another place. One of the developers though should know.
