hello guys
just came across several requests that brought up the issue of running phpBB2 and postnuke as standalone apps.!
: this is obviously a interesting thing - maybe you wanna run them on different sites: see here a potential solution - a UNIFIED Login System to run phpBB and PostNuke as Standalone Apps!
see the script here: phpBB Unified Login System (ULS) by joel kleppinger',
see here a great and very interesting news:

http://www.churchchallenge.com/phpbbULS.php/
- well perhaps we can find it useful to adopt - Joel created a script, called
phpBB Unified Login System (ULS) - for the purpose of running two standalone apps.:
see his text - (note - he applied the ULS to phpnuke)
Joel:"This was created to integrate phpBB and phpNuke in such a way that either one could be upgraded a part from the other, specifically because many good things were happening with phpBB development that weren't getting incorporated into phpNuke's forum due to the proprietary nature of the beast (and not to mention that the Closed Mind (TM) development model that Nuke uses is quite frustrating to work with).
So I developed this to keep phpBB and Nuke seperate in order to allow the two pieces of software not to be dependant on each other. Certainly, there is functionality (avatars, some PM notification stuff,
and maybe a little more) that is in Nuke's own forum that isn't in this ULS, but that's where all the headaches generally come from anyway. That functionality was also deemed unnecessary for my own personal use anyway, and it could probably be added by hacking up phpBB/Nuke a
little more anyway. The purpose is to keep the user databases synchronized and to log the user into phpBB when they log
into Nuke. All the of the hacking itself goes into Nuke (or any other portal). The only changes that need (read: could) be made to phpBB is having the profile.php and login.php calls redirect to Nuke's
user.php in the appropriate manner (A beginning implementation of this is a part of version 2 described below). Otherwise, the phpBB database could be updated and the Nuke database remain unupdated,
thus taking the two out of synchronization.

hope you find it helpful:

hi bhavey42 hello diamonddogs,
bharvey42
If I am reading your post right its for PHPNuke.
There is going to be a module that will be released that will bridge the two together.
yes Joel applied it to phpnuke - thats perhaps the issue. But as diamonddog writes we can get a better solution so that the above mentioned is not neccessary!
i can ´t wait to see the new bridge - want to use it in a portal!
best regards
martin :D
