  If a non user links to an article then he gets, for example:
  
  Not authorized to view story Intellectual Property Is Illegal :arrow:
  
  That is bad because it gives a bad impression of the owner. At the same time we lose a potential user.
  
  Something nicer giving the opportunity to become a user would be most helpful.
  
  The same holds true to backend, the person gets to your site wanting to read more about it and gets the boot.
  
  It should or link to the frontpage or give him the opportunity to register.

  That doesn't make sense. Did it perhaps say Intellectual Property Theft Is Illegal?

  I disagree. It doesn't make the site owner look bad. Many sites prevent deep linking and many require registration in order to view articles. Many newspapers have such a restriction on their websites.

  You could always search for that phrase in the script and modify it. I do agree that mentioning the need to register and including a link to the main page is a desirable feature.
