Uniting the portals  Bottom

  • Me and a couple of portal developers are thinking about uniting the portal community, and get all the developers together to develop one big portal that has the best support ever because of the mass of the opinions and developers.

We would like to hear a statement of all you developer here at myphpnuke.com if any of you are interested to participate in that project ....

  • Hi,

"POSTNUKE IS THE BEST OPENSOURCE PORTAL SYSTEM IN THE WORLD"

It has the largest USER base, largest community etc etc
If you can find something bigger than the POSTNUKE COMMUNITY plz post it here.

It is always better to stay with POSTNUKE and not making forks and CONFUSING users unnecessarily.

    Cheers icon_lol

Your poor grammar aside (A couple of developers and I, not Me and a couple of developers) , you are missing the point on forks. They happen because different developers have differing ideas on the direction of a portal. How are you going to get them to agree on one portal when it is their difference in opinions that create a fork in the first place?

While coolguy's enthusiasm for PN may be clouding his contact with reality (I believe PHP Nuke may be larger in many ways, understandable since it is considerably older then PN), there does seem to be more activity in the PN camp. Then again, I don't go looking at PHP Nuke much anymore so I might be mistaken.

Instead of a futile cause, you and your associates might want to align yourselves with one of the portals and help further its development. I think PN woudl be a good choice. It is coming along nicely and there is much to be done yet. You might want to channel your enthusiasm and efforts there and help it along.
  • I can't agree with duster1 more. Portal, content management system, community management system, appliction framework etc. There are as many terms for products that come under the same umbrella as there are products themselves.

Uniting into a single product goes against the grain of open source - that of choice and freedeom.

The key is not to unite into a single product - a futile effort anyway - but to ensure the continued attempts to support open standards and technologies to allow each portal (call it what you will) to interchange information and services.

Standards like XML-RPC, SOAP, LDAP, XML, RSS, Project Liberty etc. form the buillding blocks that allow this interchange to take place.

my 2 UK pence on the subject.

  • I must say that Duster and markwest have hit the nail on the head. I voted no.

I think your at the wrong site bud. This is PostNuke, not myphpnuke.com
And we are the content management system of choice.

I also notice you've only got 1 post here. Seems to me, and I could be wrong, but you've not been here long. Maybe you should have a look around a bit more before making silly statements like this one.

As for coolguy's enthusiasm? I LOVE it. I wish everyone would catch some of that.

PostNuke rocks. Other pale in comparison. 8)

Which is evidenced by PostNuke's 4.41 rating on HotScripts vs. myphpnuke's 5.0 icon_smile

Don't take it to heart....I just couldn't resist!

Oh, and this is quite possibly my first post here, too - hope that doesn't make me bad peeps!

For a first post there's nothing like accuracy in the facts. wink

You quoted the members rating for myphpnuke (from only 2 reviews so not a valid survey) and the visitors rating for postnuke.

    Stats are

myphpnuke 4.02/5 from 1354 votes (visitor) and 5.00/5 from 2 reviews (members).
postnuke 4.41/5 from 11272 votes (visitor) and 4.85/5 from 20 reviews (members).

Statisically the reviews rating should be discounted due to the limited size of the survey.
