Feedback from my Customers during whining process  Bottom

  • My biggest problem with PostNuke is the following:

    Non-technical side:
Problem: Customer is expecting a Frontpage solution even though they don't know Frontpage. They are under the impression that power means a Complete Office Package. First time internet web site users really don't have a clue what this stuff means. When they are confused, the first words out of there mouth is Frontpage. I would laugh out loud but they have too serious of a look on their face.
    1. The customer doesn't understand the power of the system. Need a Public Relations Module to state the awesome power of PostNuke and the solutions it provides. Perhaps a cost in price, and a cost in time.
    2. Let them know that even though this is the most powerful package on the internet we need to keep the features light so page viewing time isn't unneccesarily consumed.
    3. A nice chart illustrating the differences.
I am in the process of writing a draft but I thought this might fire up the forum with some creative spontaneity. Hopefully.
  • Sorry but you lost me on this one....
  • I have some clients that are victims of Microsoft's FrontPage advertising. They never used it in a production environment. They have one guy who says he is a webmaster. His tool of choice is Frontpage. He believes he can work a site similar to PostNuke with Frontpage. I've seen his sites. I don't think so.

Clients totally naive to the internet don't have a clue what PostNuke can do for them especially when they never done a website. Now I am doing some work for Vocalvet.com. I am training these folks now. They have a radio show and want a supporting internet side. Perfect for PostNuke.

I am suggesting PostNuke adopt a Public Relations/Marketing module. One that starts from the perspective of a naive new to the web type users. VERY NAIVE. Many business people are in this situation. I know because I also do computer hardware and my customers don't know know the difference between Frontpage and Dreamweaver.

There is a package out there called Typo3. Very well done package. Their Public Relations/Marketing information is part of their package. In fact one of the best I've seen. Better than microsofts. Also their package is very unique and good. One fallback, the author wants you to learn his scripting in some sections with what I understand is his own scripting language. I almost considered using Typo3 for some projects as it is based on PHP and MySql. His PR impressed me and any customers using his product understood it's capabilities and power.
  • A Public Relations/Marketing module with an RSS news feed maintained by the folks at PostNuke.

I would put this on all the websites done with PostNuke. This isn't a training guide but can include training. It's a resell of PostNuke to build customer confidence as well as get them excited about the possiblities.

The reason this has to be seperate from other newsfeeds is the other information can overwhelm the customer with unneccessary information when they need inspiration.

By the way, I will volunteer to part of this if needed. :P

Link to the Typo/3 PR module?
  • Here's a link to Typo3. www.typo3.com

I don't have it installed at this time. He has some requirements on the server that I don't have access to. Image Magick and Freetype and recompiling PHP. Windows this is already done but I currently am not running the software on a server. His installation program is very good too. You would have to see the process as each step is done.

Overall, I think he'll succeed in topping EZ Publish but his design would lend itself more towards the brochure webs and writers markets. :)
Hope this helps. I can try to get more details if you need.
  • I am not a typo3 personality. Bad joke I know. I also am not saying Typo3 is better than PostNuke. They have a way to go considering there stringent requirements on a Linux/Unix server.

Also, I don't believe the inpatient will live with it as the software requires some understanding to be implemented. It isn't users really have to go to command line syntax but the details and options he presents will be too complicated for many newbies.

However his documentation would even help the inpatient be persistent enough to achieve the goal of implementing the software.

By the way, I installed Postnuke for a chapel and they are exstatic. They are absolutely besides themselves.
