  Information and its Web-based representation are powerful tools for social and environmental change. The purpose of this research network is to bring together scientists of different disciplines to explore the design, implementation, management and evaluation of state-of-the-art Web information systems that promote sustainability and the protection of natural ecosystems. ECOresearch.net is intended to support the research activities of network members, identify synergies, coordinate the various projects, and help with resource acquisition. Theoretical work on the methodological, technological and organizational foundations of environmental online communication is complemented by prototype development and case studies of deployed or planned systems.
