I have version .762, running live. I figure I'll wait until .80 comes out in the final version until I upgrade to that; in the meantime, I'd like to upgrade to .764. Should I do a full install, or put in the .763 patch followed by the .764 patch?

You can patch directly from .762 to .764.

I would recommend this approach:

Edit: Backup first!

Get the full version of .764
Locally edit out the install.php, upgrade.php, config.php,
Locally edit out install, pnTemp, images, themes directories
Now Overwrite the your server with your modified .764
Go to modules in admin and refresh, and upgrade any modules that need upgrading

I know that's the instructions. Perhaps best to follow that. And definitely agree: Backup.

Although I recently upgraded a .762 site to .764. There are no database changes and there are no module upgrades (at least not any modules that I used). It's practically only security related upgrades. Sanitizing and user module if I remember correctly. Therefore the direct patch worked without any problem.

You can patch directly from .762 to .764.

A little misunderstanding on my part, I thought you were suggesting there was a patch from .762 to .764. You meant apply both patches... which is absolutely fine.

Backing Up [40] is important, regardless.

You can also take the .763 patch and overwrite it with the .764 patch, locally, and patch with the patched patch .

Or make your own patch as I outlined above..

Just patch it! ... and don't let me complicate things...
