I just got into PHP - PN seemed like an interesting way to jump right in after playing with phpBBs...
I installed .76, followed the install steps just as it said, everything went smooth (I was pleased) until I click "go to your new site", I get this error: (at the "index.php")

Fatal error: _get_plugin_filepath(): Failed opening required 'includes/classes/Smarty/internals/core.assemble_plugin_filepath.php' (include_path='.:/usr/lib/php:/usr/local/lib/php') in /home/craigvi/public_html/smphp/includes/classes/Smarty/Smarty.class.php on line 1362

"...home/craigvi/public_html/smphp" being the directory path on the host - which is VERY PHP friendly BTW. I've no other problems with MySQL Databases or PHP forums.


Search and read herein for clues for a couple of hours, rechecked my uploading (i.e. contents and directory paths, etc.), checked-rechecked permissions, looked at "Smarty.class.php on line 1362" (was clueless as a naked virgin at a frat party :? ), deleted everything and started all over, ...same error (4Xs now).

I did note there was no "core.assemble_plugin_filepath.php" by that EXACT name in 'includes/classes/Smarty/internals/ (??)

...Help?

Check your distribution - is the file in the distribution? If so, it didn't upload / unpack correctly. Empty out and try again.

Thanks for the suggestions - but looks like we're nuking PostNuke in favor of something with better support (like not having support pages that come up blank) and a program that generally works as claimed.

Any PHP program that is missing required files will have problems if not FTP'd completely and correctly. If the file was missing, as you claimed, then there was an obvious error somewhere, and not with PostNuke.

Does PostNuke have some problems? Yes - its is, after all, in a pre 1.0 stage. Legitimate bugs, from my experience, are addressed quickly and/or fixes outlined on this forum.

Good luck with whatever you choose.

I've used many CMS's, and they ALL have issues at one time or another - not usually becuaes of their own code, but the hosting hardware, OS, and conflicts, mis-configured or mis-compiled servers and PHP or mysql, etc.

If you just got into PHP, then you'll soon come to realize that many open source PHP programs are in evolving stages - there will always be some tweaking and such to make it work perfectly, or look exactly how you like, etc.

PostNuke works fine, as demonstrated by the thousands of PostNuke sites on the web. I'm sorry you had a bad experience, but to claim something doesn't work on the basis of such slim evidence is naïve...
