API call to test for Group membership

Is there an API call which I can use to determine if a logged-in user is a member of a particular Group?

no, such a thing does not exsist, that would be a decent plugin though

In 0.8, the UserUtil class provides an API call to get an array of group ID's for which the given user is a member ...
