Flash_Chat from webdesignhq.com

Anyone know how to get this flash chat to work in .76?

Realtime Flash Chat Module for Postnuke

http://www.webdesignhq.com/portal/modules.php?op=modload&name=Downloads&file=index&req=viewdownloaddetails&lid=5

due to instructions saying to copy code and paste it into a URL, I tried to install postwrap 2.5 and its patch, but couldn't get the flash chat to load.

I tried a direct module call and was told I can't access the mod directly. I tried adding &file=index.php after it and was told the mod couldn't load. At first it was a mod naming thing, but I fixed that in the mod edit window.

SPChat was the best chat I found for free just months before I was forced to upgrade to .76 and now it won't work properly, and there has been no response from the author at the site for some time.

I don't want an IRC chat system, had a few "breakins" from non-users crashing the party on those and I want to stay away from them.

I need something that integrates with the postnuke users table without my having to code it, as I don't know PHP hardly at all.

Someone else here gave a list to various chat clients, but none of them, to my knowledge, integrated with postnuke, or were free.

Help?
Hey Give Tufat's Chat a try. I have been using NS-Chat then switched to SP-Chat but I alway ran into problems with more then 10 users, also firewall issues etc.

I am using TUFAT Chat and it has been awesome, everyone can connect, dial up or highspeed, it hold a ton of people, a ton of features and it just hands down the best Chat I have used thus far.

See my review Here
I would highly recommend it.

Here is a list of Chats that I have been able to find for Postnuke.
If you find any more that are not on that list feel free to post them.
123flashchat -- needs the paid server software to run
FCSchat -- for fee
FlashChat -- isn't running properly
Online Messenger -- already have an online messenger module working
pnCGIIRC -- IRC something I don't want to do
pnCopilot -- IRC something I don't want to do
SPChat -- the one I prefer to use
TagIt Shoutbox -- already have shoutboxes, don't want another one
ToChat -- IRC something I don't want to do

I want something like SPChat, not like IRC, that is free, and integrates with Postnuke. Chat_504 would be nice if it could integrate, but I have no idea how to do that. Flash chat is closer, but still won't run in postnuke 76.

Any one with other suggestions?
I a running it on Postnuke 760.
Granted I use postwrap, but it does integrate with my postnuke users, I saw the work around to have it embed in your site but you needed to add a header/footer combo, I found postwrap was easier and quicker to put in.

None of my users complain and I set the window size in postwrap, which was a real help.
I have postwrap installed, but either I'm not calling the chat properly, or its coming up blank.

Did you actually put the chat page and all its files into the postwrap directory?
No, I have it defined in my URL Security. I installed the CHat like it was suppose to be..its not in the module directory. I couldn't get that to work.
You have to set it up in your postnuke root directory. That was the only thing I couldn't get to work. I do have admin access, but not through postnuke. But once I set myself as a admin. I haven't had to use the admin interface.
Then I just use postwrap to call it, and I set the window size up. It works good. Only people who are registered in my site can use it. I don't need the admin to create new rooms. I can do it right from the interface.

Other then that, it runs itself.

Good luck.
are you using the new version?
I'm using the current version of postwrap, yes. I'll have to check where I'd put the flash chat installation and try again. Thanks for letting me know how you did that.
Tufats, rule... well worth the 5$ fee... check it out on our site... www.attackforcez.com, click on news or something that enters the site, scroll down on the left and choose chat here to test it.
I'm not having any luck with postwrap, keep being told

Sorry, this host is not authorized to display pages here.
Function main in module PostWrap returned.

And general settings aren't set to lock down any host domain information.

*sigh* I don't really want to approach the nonprofit board over a purchase when we aren't getting many donations right now.

I'd hoped there'd be a satisfactory replacement to SPChat out there.
you have got to be kidding? $5.00 is what you pay for a starbucks coffee or a pack of cigarettes. Jesus.... its not a lot of money. TUFATS has provided an excellent package and is not asking for alot in return.

Jesus *shakes head wondering* everyone wants everything for free............. :?

I have to agree... 5$ also = LIFETIME upgrades... not just for the one version. I have been updating mine for 2 years now as they add features.

Can you tell me how you set yourself up as admin? I've only been able to do that from the admin interface in flashchat.

It's a lot of money for someone who does NOT buy coffee one to three times a day! On top of that, you could refrain from cussing at people, as its not appreciated and lowers others view of you rather quickly. Maybe you have all the money you could ever need with more than enough left over at the end of a month to pay for coffee every single day or even once a week, but I don't. I live below the poverty line. I pay my bills, feed my kids, keep a roof over our heads, and work hard to do it. I am not paid by the site I am maintaining either. Donations to that site are few and far between because we don't push for them. And as with my home, so with the site, incoming funds are first spent on hosting and domain needs.

I voluntarily run the site, I voluntarily keep it up to date, and I voluntarily try to find features members want. I do that all for FREE! When the nonprofit board can afford to pay me, that is the time I'll consider purchasing code.

In the meantime, quit thinking everyone can afford what you can! There is a level of society below you to consider.
Songdove, in this particular situation, you must think in a more practical way...

If you spent already 4 hours if not more to try and make something work and it still doesn't.. don't you think that a 5$ solution is worth it (if it works of course) ?

Yes, it's 2 happy meals your kids won't get (along saving the risk of obesity for later) but time must be spent in the right place.

Light tone don't worry... wink I have been in this kind of situation.
I'm having an issue with SPChat though. When I click on the link, it'll open just fine. I choose a room, click "Lets Go" and it opens my ENTIRE PN site within a small window...no chat room, just my entire site.
I said on other topioc that SPChat don't work on Postnuke 0761, but nobody read me :(
ahhh i didn't see that other topic.
