Zikula / Blocks
menutree (old) 2.0.1
Extension type: Block
Extension originally created by Jusuff on Feb 17, 2009
- Description
This is old entry - menutree is now published as module. Please visit menutree module entry
Menutree block allows to create multilevel, hierarchical (tree-like) menu. Block management can be done through "drag and drop" method, and the whole process of creating a block can be done without page reloads.
Block has all features known from standard menu, and many more, among which are:
- convenient menu managing through the "drag and drop" method of and handy context menu,
- support for multiple languages - in multilingual site each item may have a different name and title for the different languages, also url and css class may (but need not) be different,
- selected element (and its sub-items) can be disabled or enabled,
- possibility to import menu from other blocks ("menu", "extmenu", "dynamenu" and "menutree" block types are supported),
- dynamic elements - plugins, which allows to create automatically lists of installed modules, news categories etc.
Default package contains only two sample templates. If you're looking for more advanced templates - please take a look at Erik Spaan's Menus for MenuTree plugin.

Hi,
this is a great block for creating multi level menus within your Zikula website. Those who remember/used Dynamenu will know that it was a hassle to add or delete items to the menu. For a large menu the list would seem endless. The limitation of phplayersmenu was also not that great.
The very modern Ajax admin interface in MenuTree is really much better and much more user friendly. The potential is endless, since the block is set up in such a way that you can add your own menu templates and style sheets and choose them from the admin configuration. By choosing your own menu layout you can also choose a lightweight pure CSS menu or a much more fancy menu supported by a kind of JavaScript functionality.
Multi language menus (just like in extmenu) are also possible, which is just great. No need for a seperate menu for 2 languages and 2 sets of permissions.
I've created a set of templates/style sheets for MenuTree within the BlankTheme project and this has been a real charm to do. Of course you need to know the structure of the Menutree menu items a bit, but there are several working menus already included. So you can see how it's being done.
The update from version 1 to version 2 has really improved usablity and I think this will be THE multi level menu block for Zikula. It will only grow as more menu layouts will become available for the block.
Thanks Pawel for all the work
regards, Erik

Import from DynaMenu
Import from DynaMenu is also possible, check out Ticket #7 in the menutree project, where the solution is posted. This is however not yet implemented in menutree.
I hope Pawel finds some time to implement it
regards,Erik
